Interesting Post... 7/31/2010 through 8/7/2010

Okay… we are going to do a Saturday evening edition of Interesting Post… Tomorrow I am going to get up early, do a little hike through the woods, bring home bagels for Kimi and the kids, toss the football with Noah, and then head to the airport for a week in sunny Orlando and the Agile 2010 conference. I'm totally geeked heading to Orlando as an independent agile coach. Did I say I'm geeked ;-)

There are so many people that I want to talk to and so many things I want to do and see while I am in town. I'm am looking forward to having one heck of a week. If you are going to be at the conference… give me a call, shoot me an email, or DM me and let's find a few minutes to get together. I'm doing my talk on How To Own a Really Large Complex Product… so come see me there too!

Travel safe and I'll see you in Orlando.

Interesting Post... 7/4/2010 through 7/11/2010

Today is the last day of our beach weekend. The kids were pretty much over the beach after the first day. Their Mom grew up on the beach and can sit there for hours on end enjoying the sun and surf. I don't think the kids got that gene. I told my 8 year old that if he tried to have fun today, I'd let him bury me in the sand. I was hoping he might forget... he didn't. I spent about 30 minutes trying to get sand out of places where sand should never be!

As you can see from the length of this post, I continue to be extremely pleased with the performance of the Dlvr.it service. It's better than Twitterfeed ever was... even when it was working it's best. I go through a lot of blog posts every week, it kind of makes me sad how many were never getting out to you guys. It always seemed like I was reading and sharing more than would come up in these summaries... and now we know why... so anyway... it's fixed... I'll stop dwelling on it... really... I will.

Interesting Post... 6/25/2010 through 7/4/2010

Hey everyone. It is a great week for my Interesting Post... updates. I finally gave up on Twitterfeed and went to dlvr.it. This new service is faster and more accurate that Twitterfeed ever thought about being. I finally have confidence that all the stuff I share in my Google Reader feed is making it out to the Twittersphere. I'm guessing that you'll notice the list here is longer than usual... now you know why.

Anyway... for all you guys in the US, happy 4th of July! My family has started a series of traditions around this holiday that I think are really fun. The kids and I got up early yesterday and drove to South Carolina to buy some fireworks. The really good fireworks are illegal to sell in Georgia, so the good people of South Carlolina provide stores just on the other side of the border so we don't have to drive too far.

The past few years, our tradition had been to cook many, many pounds of baby back ribs. We changed it up this year and made a shredded BBQ concoction of beef, pork, chicken, sausage, and bacon... plus my secret blend of sauce and seasonings. Very tasty.. we made it yesterday, but I'm really looking forward to leftovers later this afternoon. We did the whole fireworks thing last night and have plans to spend the evening with some good friends and launch the fireworks we got yesterday in South Carolina!

Have a great day and enjoy this weeks installment of Interesting Post...

Interesting Post... 6/14/2010 through 6/20/2010

Okay... so get this. When I go to my Google Reader feed and look at all the stuff I've shared over the past week, I get one list. When I go to my Twitter page and pull all the 'Interesting Post..' articles I've shared over the same time period... I get a different list. There is some overlap but neither is a subset of the other. My guess is that what I've actually shared over the past week is a superset of both lists. Oh well, again... maybe one day I'll spend some time trying to figure out what's up. Either way, this is a pretty good list of all the stuff that I noodled through over the past week.

Hope you like this week's installment of 'Interesting Post...'.

Interesting Post... 6/6/2010 through 6/13/2010

Okay... so this has been one HOT Sunday afternoon. Today is the first day of Boy Scout camp... our annual trek to a really HOT and humid place to spend the week living outdoors. It was about 96 degrees today and probably about 96% humidity. I smell like a barn animal, there are showers, but that squeaky clean feeling DOES NOT last long.

Fortunately, there is an administrative building up the dirt road that has AC and Internet access. I'm going to try to get some writing done tomorrow while the kids are out working on merit badges. I hear they have a coffee pot too. If you are interested, scroll down to the bottom of this post for a little video log from our days adventures.

Interesting Post... 5/10/2010 through 5/16/2010

It's been a little while since my last Sunday morning installment of 'Interesting Post...' I don't usually like to fill my blog up with summary articles like this... so when I'm not writing real content, I don't tend to want to do these.

Also, I've gotten to where I don't really trust TwitterFeed a whole heck of a lot. TwitterFeed is what monitors my Google Share feed and turns them into tweets. It just doesn't seem to be as reliable as it once was. Some day when I have some time, I'll either figure out what I've done wrong, or I'll find another service.

As for now... enjoy this round of tweets from the week.

Interesting Post... 2/4/2010 through 2/13/2010

We got some snow in Atlanta yesterday. It's not very often that we have 4 inches of snow on the ground. I had my kids all convinced to go backpacking with me this weekend, but the cold temperatures and damp conditions scared them off. I guess the 10 degree down bags they got for Christmas didn't make them feel any better about putting in some miles and sleeping outside. So anyway... in the absence of backpacking, decided to do a little writing today. Hope you enjoy this week's installment of 'Interesting Post...'.

Interesting Post... 1/4/2010 through 1/10/2010

There were about 10 days or so where none of my shared Google Reader items were making their way to Twitter. Pretty frustrating. That is just the kind of problem that I don't have the time to try solve.

I suspect that I accidentally revoked TwitterFeed's access to my Twitter account. A few weeks ago I was trying to turn off some auto-follow services I had setup a while back. I am still not convinced that the auto-follow is off, but I recreated my TwitterFeed stuff and reauthorized and everything seems to be back on track.

Anyway... hope you enjoy this week's installment of Interesting Post...

Interesting Post... 12/13/2009 through 12/20/2009

It seems that with a teenager... and an almost teenager in the house... there is no such thing as getting an early start anymore. What is it with teenagers and sleep!? The kids and I are getting ready to head out for a little day hike... and I had a few minutes to kill while everyone was getting ready... so you guys are getting a pre-holiday edition of 'Interesting Post'.

There was some really good content out there this week. In particular... scroll down to the post 'Something in Agile Needs Fixing'. That one probably got the most Twitter action this week. Oh, and also... is anyone else enjoying Glen Alleman's 'discussion' of Project Management 2.0 as much as I am?

Interesting Post... 11/30/2009 through 12/6/2009

Hey... it's been a few weeks since an installment of Interesting Post update. I have to apologize for not being consistent with these, but I hate doing these summary posts when I'm not generating other new content... it feels kinda like cheating ;-)

That said, I managed to push out a few real posts this week, so I am feeling pretty good about doing one of these Twitter summaries. It has been a pretty good week for agile content on the net... so sit back... get ready... and enjoy this weeks installment of Interesting Post...

Interesting Post... 11/1/2009 through 11/8/009

Got a interesting story for you guys...

Arrived in the Copenhagen airport today for my 11:10 AM flight back to Atlanta. I looked up on the board... no flight to Atlanta. I went over to the Information Desk and the lady tells me that there was a flight on the 7th... and another scheduled for the 9th... but no flight on the 8th. Hmmmmmmmm. Since Delta does not have local gate agents, we head over to the servicing organization that handles Delta ticketing. Apparently, Delta has decided that they aren't going to fly direct from Copenhagen to Atlanta on Sunday anymore. Kimi and I are booked on the Monday flight.

Well... we had a VERY helpful agent in Copenhagen that called and talked to a VERY UNHELPFUL agent in Atlanta. I am starting to see a CLEAR pattern with Delta phone agents. Apparently, there was only one other flight back to Atlanta today , and unfortunately the gate for that flight had just closed. Delta was willing to move us to a SkyTeam partner, but not to another airline to get us home as planned. Come to find out, the agent in Atlanta was wrong and there WAS another flight back to Atlanta, through Paris, that was going to leave in a few hours. Our agent in Copenhagen got us on that flight. This guy was my hero today... he was seriously dedicated to providing outstanding customer service.

Here is the lesson learned. About six weeks ago, I did get an email from Delta telling me that my fight had been changed. I get these messages all the time, but up until this point they had only communicated small schedule changes or seat assignments. I didn't catch that they had canceled my flight and moved me to an airplane on an entirely different day. I am not sure if I should be mad at Delta or mad at myself for not paying more attention. I guess I'll take responsibility and be mad at myself. Kimi and I are going to be a few hours late back to Atlanta tonight, but I am very happy to be going home.

With all that drama as a backdrop... this weeks installment of 'Interesting Post' is coming to you from the Startbuck's in CPH Terminal 3. Hope you guys enjoy!

Interesting Post... 10/26/2009 through 10/31/2009

Agilepalooza was a great event this week. It was good to hang out with the crew from VersionOne and all the great folks in Boston. I'm back in Atlanta for a day or so and then off to Oredev in Sweden. Living a bit of the crazy life right now... but all is good.

The kids and I got up early and carved our giant Jack-o-Lantern. We spent the next part of the day at a VERY STRANGE event for Pug enthusiasts (Pugfest... my 12 year old son wanted to go) and now the Florida Gators are on the tube. We are beating Georgia 14-1o and I sure hope they keep the lead. They are looking MUCH better than they have the past few weeks so I am hopeful! Tonight is Halloween so I am sure we'll do a little trick-or-treating in a bit. Nice to have some family time with the kids before I head out for the week.

Interesting Post... 10/17/2009 through 10/25/2009

Okay... so the hard reality is that these aren't going to happen every week. Actually... I suspect that this might be my last 'Interesting Post...' summary for the next couple of weeks. I'm getting ready to head off for two weeks straight travel so I might be lucky to get even a regular blog post or two out while I am gone. As you guys know... traveling can be hit or miss with me. Sometimes I get out there and am inspired... sometimes traveling wears me out. No idea how this trip will play out ;-) Anyway... more on my travel schedule and upcoming speaking engagements in the next post... for now it is time for another installment of 'Interesting Post...'

Interesting Post... 10/1/2009 through 10/10/2009

It hasn't just been my blogging that has suffered over the past few weeks... I have also gotten behind on my blog reading and I haven't been nearly as active on Twitter. That said... there were alot of great posts over the past few weeks... some of which I did share... that never made it here on the 'Interesting Post...' summary. I went out to Twitter to scrape my Tweets for the past few weeks and it would only let me go 9 days back.

That said... I am cutting my losses and going with what I have. So here it is... my 'Interesting Post...' summary for the past 9 days...

Oh... and by the way... you'll also notice that this post is coming out a day early. I usually do this post on Sunday mornings. Sunday is a slow blog day and I am usually up ahead of my kids and getting a few things done. I am heading to the PMI Global Congress around lunch-time on Sunday, so I didn't want to worry about getting this one out. So here you are... a Saturday edition.

One more thing.... the family and I are making our annual pilgrimage to Burt's Pumpkin Farm to get our traditional giant pumpkin. We'll turn our giant pumpkin into one big Jack-o-Lantern as we get closer to Halloween. If you happen to be near Atlanta in the fall... Burt's Pumpkin farm is a must go Fall destination.

Interesting Post... 8/30/2009 through 9/5/2009

Wow! Have we been back from Agile 2009 for over a week now? Time sure does fly. You may have noticed that I didn't do an "Interesting Post" summary last week. It's not that there weren't any interesting posts... it's just that my Internet access was so bad in Chicago, I gave up reading blogs and Twittering. So in short... there was nothing to summarize. I came back to Atlanta with over 900 unread posts in my Google Reader. I tried to scan them for highlights... but in the end gave up and decided to 'Mark All Read' and start over!

So now we are back in the game. Here is my list of what was worth reading from over 1000+ posts across over 400 blogs. Oh, and by the way... if your blog never shows up on my Interesting Post list... you might want to check my blog roll and see if you are on it. Every once in a while someone I should be following is noticeably absent. Let me know and I'll subscribe to your feed.
